Matica
Biography
Although relatively new on the scene, Liverpool-based producer/songwriter/composer and DJ, Matica aka Matt McNamara started learning piano aged six and fell in love with making music during his time playing in a band in his late teens/early 20s. Describing his sound as “a smattering of styles and influences, usually woven into a heavy, clubby setting,” his influences are multinational and multi-genre, from The Beatles to Daft Punk; Fela Kuti to James Brown. Matt’s tastes were shaped by DKD’s (and the comprising individual artists) broken beat and the more jazz-influenced UK sounds. “Remarc completely changed for me what I heard to be possible with cutting up drums and programming.”
Matica has seen support from broken beat pioneers like IG Culture and Afronaut, as well as Jay Carder, Jamz Supernova (BBC 6 Music), Colleen ‘Cosmo’ Murphy and Macca (NTS). He has released music on Dance Regular and supported Mala, Crazy P, Chase & Status, LTJ Bukem, Aroop Roy, and Sully.
