‘Between The Lines’ is a rich, genre-spanning project rooted in community, collaboration and experimentation, the album traces the evolution of Oliver’s sound across broken rhythms, lush harmonies and soulful textures.
On “Boss”, Oliver reconnects with one of his heroes, the legendary British rapper and producer Roots Manuva. The pair have history, Oliver previously worked with him alongside producer Olmino on the track “Beyond This World”. Built on a broken beat backbone, “Boss” carries a message of staying true to yourself. “I’d wanted to make another track for Roots for years,” Oliver shares. “It’s been a huge honour to finally make it happen.” Roots Manuva returns the admiration, adding: “Working with Oliver is a treat. He’s the boss!”
Roots Manuva is one of the most influential voices in UK music. Emerging from South London with his debut Brand New Second Hand (1999) on Big Dada, he reached global acclaim with Run Come Save Me (2001) and its iconic single “Witness (I Hope)”. Blending hip-hop with dub, ragga, funk, and electronic sounds, his work has earned him a MOBO Award, a Mercury Prize nomination, and lasting recognition as a pioneer of British rap.
Oliver will be celebrating the launch of ‘Between The Lines’ with an album launch party – featuring a live P.A. and guest appearances – on Thursday November 13th, at The BBE Store, Helmsley Place, London E8. More details here: https://www.instagram.com/p/DO57mHYjbdm/
A former member of Roots Manuva’s Banana Klan, Oliver’s journey has seen him appear at Glastonbury, Tate Modern, Boiler Room, and on Rinse FM and Worldwide FM. His collaborative reach spans names such as Bel Cobain, Marcel Vogel, Quiet Dawn, Jimpster, Jay Phelps and Natasha Diggs, with releases on CoOp Presents and beyond garnering support from Gilles Peterson, Jamz Supernova, Kerri Chandler, Honey Dijon, Tony Humphries, Jazzie B, Seth Troxler, Kid Fonque and Rainer Trüby. His music has been spotlighted by outlets including Bolting Bits and Music Is My Sanctuary, cementing him as a standout voice in the evolving bruk and soul landscape.
Oliver’s relationship with music runs deep, shaped by family, fuelled by curiosity, and guided by a desire to grow. His uncle, Hughie Izachaar, a reggae artist, gifted him his first guitar, the instrument that kickstarted Oliver’s creative journey. “We had a piano at home too,” he recalls. “I’d always be messing around on it. Then when I got to secondary school, I picked up drumming – I used to get to school early just to practise.” From those beginnings, his path moved through bands, session work, DJing, and a formative spell in Germany, where he began learning how to produce music using Logic, long before YouTube tutorials. “It was all trial and error,” he says. “I was working with a producer making DnB tracks, just figuring things out.” Returning to London with a DIY mindset, he started developing his own hybrid style: rooted in hip hop, laced with broken beat, and always drawing on house, soul and jazz influences.
