Brothers (Beno Edit / Remix)
Sefi Zisling
Released: 2 Apr 2026
Label: Tru Thoughts
Acclaimed trumpeter and composer Sefi Zisling returns with a fresh rework of “Brothers”, reshaped by longtime collaborator, bass player and producer, Beno. Where the original album cut stood apart on his third LP, The Librarian, for its electric pulse and forward-leaning groove, Beno’s edit leans deeper into the rhythm, stretching the pocket and revealing new details with each pass.
Sefi and Beno’s connection goes back to the trumpeter’s earliest days: “My relationship with Beno goes way back. We played together in one of my first professional gigs when I was 19 years old. We immediately bonded, sharing love for music and vinyl, and ever since we’ve been close friends, we love working and creating together,” says Sefi. That sense of shared history is felt throughout. Rather than reframing the track entirely, Beno works with the existing performance, foregrounding the rhythm section and letting the arrangement breathe in new spaces.
A key figure in the RAW TAPES label, member of Buttering Trio and the LBT collective, Beno has recorded and performed with artists including Balkan Beat Box, Shay Ben Tzur, Berry Sakharof, Ehud Banai and Shai Tsabari. His work moves fluidly between jazz, funk, dub and electronics, combining live musicianship with a hands-on, groove-focused production style.
“I’ve always loved listening to Sefi play – there’s a constant touch of funk and soul in his sound. You can truly hear his soul through the instrument. I asked Sefi if he’d be interested in letting me create a remix or rework of his own music. Together, we chose the track “Brothers.” Sefi sent me the original stems, and I started working from there. The first version I created was a new edit – shorter, tighter, and focused on preserving every emotional moment of the original composition” Beno
The remix sits comfortably alongside the original while offering DJs and selectors a fresh, extended angle. “Beno’s approach is very unique, and it’s evident in his Bass playing and productions, so it was an easy and natural call to ask him to edit and remix “Brothers”, Sefi explains. “His deep knowledge of groove culture, from Sly & Robbie to Sly Stone and everything in between, makes this release rich with tiny nuances that grow on you with every listen.”
“Brothers” was one of the moments on The Librarian where Sefi stepped into a more electric, groove-led palette. Recorded live with his close-knit ensemble, the track captured the spontaneous interplay that defines his work, a balance of precision and looseness that Beno’s edit preserves.
With support across Jazz FM, BBC 6 Music, Worldwide FM, FIP, Bandcamp Weekly and tastemakers including Gilles Peterson, Jamie Cullum, Cerys Matthews and Huey Morgan, this remix offers a timely return to one of Sefi’s most rhythmically charged pieces, reframed through the lens of friendship and a mutual love of deep groove.
