Footshooter shares the Marla Kether remix of Folding feat. Allysha Joy – one of the standout tracks from his 2025 album The Oasis.

Originally a collaboration with Melbourne-born vocalist and songwriter Allysha Joy, Folding balanced a laidback, jazz-infused groove with propulsive broken beat rhythms. On the remix, bassist, producer and DJ Marla Kether reimagines the track as a delicate yet driving deep house cut. “I really love the original: the strong vocals from Allysha, the fact it maintains a laidback groove while being 160bpm, the simple but highly effective chord changes,” Marla explains. “I wanted to incorporate those elements while making a track that still sounded like me. The result is a deep house remix featuring my signature driving basslines and Latin percussion that still feels delicate and ethereal.”

The remix highlights the strength of The Oasis as a collaborative project, a record that Footshooter described as “a collection of moods from the last three years” and “a wish for everyone to find their oasis among whatever desert is surrounding them.” That ethos of collaboration continues here, opening the music up to a new wave of creative voices.

Born in London to Congolese parents, Marla Kether has become one of the most exciting new voices in the UK underground. Exceeding 40 million streams for her work as a session bassist with artists including Loyle Carner, Yazmin Lacey, Oscar Jerome and Obongjayar, Marla stepped out as a solo artist with her debut EP All That We Have in 2023. The release drew acclaim from Crack Magazine, Mary Anne Hobbs, Jamz Supernova, Shanti Celeste and Gilles Peterson, with Bandcamp Daily listing it among “The Best Electronic Music of November 2023” and DJ Mag naming its closing track among their “Top Tracks of the Year.”
