Warm and unmistakably Slowe, “How Hard Can It Be?” marks the beginning of a new chapter for Slowe, one that deepens her exploration of self-produced soul while embracing a richer, more focused sound. Working with frequent collaborator, Bristol-based producer and instrumentalist Laurence Fazakerley Buglass, the track marks the first time Slowe has recorded a full band live in the studio. Co-produced and co-mixed by the pair, it’s built around swirling chords, lilting drum grooves, and her signature ethereal vocals, capturing the quiet frustration of overthinking and the tug-of-war between self-belief and doubt.

“I know it’s a part of me but how hard can it be?” sums up my feelings around dealing with anxiety” Slowe explains, “I know it’s something I deal with and live with, and most of the time I can manage, but sometimes you can’t help but ask yourself, how hard can it be to just be ‘normal?!”

Drawing from vintage soul and the golden warmth of ’70s pop, soul and even lover’s rock, Slowe’s production on “How Hard Can It Be?” nods to her love of artists like Minnie Riperton and Arthur Verocai, while maintaining the introspective lyricism and lo-fi detail that have become her signature. The result is a sound that feels both nostalgic and defiantly modern, a shimmering snapshot of late-twenties reflection and self-awareness.

Raised in the Welsh border town of Chepstow and now based in Bristol, Slowe has been quietly carving out her place in the UK’s alternative soul landscape. Her self-produced debut, Where The Mind Wanders, saw support from Gilles Peterson, Robert Elms (BBC Radio London), Don Letts (BBC 6 Music), BBC Introducing, KCRW, NTS, J-Wave Tokio Hot 100, Soho Radio, Balamii, and Dummy Mag, among others.
