1BTN launches a new supporters club
Internationally renowned radio station 1BTN launches a new supporters club.
1BTN, the Brighton-based, not-for-profit radio station, has launched an innovative and exciting new initiative aimed at raising funds to keep the station moving forward. The 1BTN Supporters Club will provide members with loads of exclusive benefits, including guest mixes from established artists and DJs, a monthly music package from associated record labels, free entry to live events and discounts off merchandise.
Strictly advert-free, since their first broadcast in 2015, 1BTN has constantly delivered an incredibly diverse, eclectic and specialist music programme, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The station – available locally on 101.4FM and online at www.1btn.fm – is run by volunteers with around 150 presenters, producing over 120 new shows a month. Many of the presenters are from the local area but with an increasing number of established and well-known presenters and guests from around the world. Tru Thoughts are part of the 1BTN family with both label head Robert Luis and our artists having shows on the station: Robert Luis’ weekly show “Tru Thoughts presents Unfold” is broadcast every Sunday evening, while Animanz, BiggaBush, J-Felix and WheelUP are part of the current 1BTN roster.
1BTN don’t have a playlist. They’re not beholden to any big record labels or pluggers. Its presenters play music they love and no two shows are the same. Alongside regular hosts, guest presenters have included Norman Cook, Norman Jay and Gilles Peterson, who said of 1BTN on his last visit, “I’ve been here a couple of times now and when I come down the stairs, I see the paraphernalia on the walls and the love that goes into it and I know that the music is in a safe space.”
1BTN is a business first and foremost and there are necessary monthly costs and outgoings to cover but this novel initiative will see the station evolve and flourish for many years to come. “This wonderful radio station has very much been a labour of love since I first had the idea back in late 2013,” said station founder Mickey Jukes. “With an incredible army of volunteers, who love what they do – and very much appreciate what we do – coupled with an ever-expanding listener base, we have built an incredibly important and worthwhile project, which continues to grow and expand. As is the same with many businesses, we are having to rethink how we market ourselves to meet the demands of the ever-changing world around us. If our listeners and wider community subscribe to the 1BTN supporters club – from as little as £3 a month – we know we can push forward with our exciting and ambitious plans.”
