Biography
Undoubtedly one of the world’s leading harpists, Alina Bzhezhinska is a powerhouse musician on a mission to bring the harp to the forefront of contemporary sound. A celebrated composer, bandleader, and innovator, she has collaborated with legendary artists, including Brian Jackson, Chaka Khan, Shabaka Hutchings, DJ Spinna, and Slide Johnson, performing to audiences worldwide.
Her trailblazing HipHarpCollective was awarded Best Ensemble of the Year at the 2024 Parliamentary Jazz Awards, following the success of their critically acclaimed double LP Reflections (BBE Music), which was named Best Album of the Year 2023 by Preston Music. Bzhezhinska’s work as a solo artist has been equally celebrated, with her most recent duet project alongside Tony Kofi hailed as “a masterpiece” by Downbeat Magazine.
Beyond her own releases—Inspiration (Ubuntu Music, 2018), Reflections (BBE Music, 2022), and Altera Vita (BBE, 2024)—Bzhezhinska has contributed to Shabaka Hutchings’ Afrikan Culture (Impulse!), and Ganavya’s Forgive Me Mine (Native Rebel Recordings, 2024).
As a live performer, Bzhezhinska has graced some of the most prestigious venues and festivals, including WOMADelaide, EFG London Jazz Festival, Edinburgh International Festival, Paris Jazz Festival, Royal Albert Hall, and Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club. She continues to push the boundaries of harp performance, blending jazz, classical, and electronic music.
Now, with her signing to Tru Thoughts, Bzhezhinska embarks on an exciting new chapter, with new music planned for spring 2025.
