Nenor & Eyal Rob (a.k.a Rabo & Snob)
Biography
Nenor & Eyal Rob (a.k.a Rabo & Snob) are longtime friends and colleagues who have been creating music and DJing since the late 90s. Together, and under different aliases and groups, they’ve created and collaborated on music that spans from Jamaica to Ghana, from the US to Tel Aviv, and from disco to hip-hop and house. As Rabo & Snob they eschew the worn rhythms of disco, injecting a heretofore unheard blend of middle-eastern rhythm mixed with western influence, and from time to time love to take an adventure on the dark 80’s side roads. Equal parts studio musician and disco academia, this Tel Aviv DJ duo know their history and can see the future.
Nenor (aka Obas Nenor) has released with Moodymann’s legendary Mahogani imprint, Strictly Rhythm, Universal Music and many more esteemed labels, and is one of Israel’s most in-demand producers. His hypnotic extended dub remix of Sefi Zisling’s ‘The Sky Sings’ on Tru Thoughts has become a club staple, amassing support from Bonobo, Gilles Peterson and more.
Eyal Rob has a multidiscipline academic career as a lecturer of contemporary Israeli culture in various universities in the US and teaches creative writing at Tel Aviv University and other colleges.
One of their journeys led them to Accra, Ghana, where they were asked to lecture and DJ. The duo brought some recording equipment and some basic beats and asked around for some local talent. ELi A Free was highly recommended by a mutual friend and was invited to the hotel room, where they set up a makeshift studio and recorded the foundations of ‘What Are You Waiting For?’
