Origin One
Biography
Origin One is a prolific Nottingham-based Producer, Engineer and Songwriter and DJ. His vast skillset has led him to produce and engineer releases for the likes of Bru-C (on his number 3 UK album ‘Smile’), Harleighblu, Devilman, MC Spyda, Irah and more. Additionally, he has toured with UK Hip Hop legend Klashnekoff as his DJ, written and performed as part of a live orchestra for Natalie Duncan and worked a as studio engineer for Wiley. Closer to home, Origin One is a key player in the Nottingham community and is the director and owner of the city’s well established DTR Studios, supporting an endless string of UK artists.
His recent release with Tru Thoughts – “Symphony Of Life” – saw him collaborate with Portuguese-London songstress Nãnci Correia. Recorded as part of a four-track project (ÆTHER) representing the elements, the track focusses on “earth”, exploring the relationship between the seasons, life, death and rebirth. Ordinarily known for his sounds reflecting UK Bass music, Jungle, DnB and Hip Hop, coming together to form his own interpretation of Sound System culture, Origin One’s production on “Symphony Of Life” is organically sparse.
Collaborating with Rider Shafique, Nadia Latoya (MELONYX), Charlie P and K.O.G on the “Step In Time” EP, Origin One documents the struggles and experiences of his musical peers during Covid-19 and lockdown. Musically mapping the journey of reggae through the decades, the tracks cover topics from lost love to the failures of the Tory government. The project was funded by Help Musicians UK as part of a proposal to support musicians impacted by the pandemic.
Over the past 15 years Origin One has cultivated his distinct production sound by drawing inspiration and experimentation from UK Garage, Grime, Jungle, DnB, Dancehall, Hip Hop, Reggae and Dub, which he has effortlessly blended into a new generation of UK influenced bass music, rooted by Soundsystem Music as the core value. Origin One has worked with the likes of MC Spyda, Garnda, XL Mad (Numa Crew) and Irah, releasing music on imprints including Nice Up!, Tru Thoughts, Scotch Bonnet Records, Off Me Nut Records, Mimm, Raider Records, Irish Moss, Born On The Road, Deeper Than Roots Records and Totally Dubwise. His interpretation of ‘Roots Music’ has received support and recognition from the likes of David Rodigan, Don Letts, Toddla T, Jamz Supernova and Dean Jackson (BBC Radio Nottingham). Also an accomplished DJ, he has appeared at Boomtown, Soundwave Festival Croatia, Shambala, Bestival, Detonate and more.
