Bryony’s first new music since her debut album, “Moving Forward”, evolved from a demo into a funky, optimistic mover during a recording session jam. The bright, jazzy keys pair with Bryony’s musings on “those newborn days and how the relationship with [her] partner was being completely altered, having to shift to fit in [their] little girl and still stay strong and supported”. The lyrics describe being on the turn of a new era; Bryony sings “Stepping out our boundaries to move us forwards” and “We made a promise, keep standing strong”. This emotional depth is complemented by Bryony’s distinctive harmonious vocals and the infusion of jazz-inspired melodies. The track is produced by Ben Lamdin, whose credits include writing and producing for artists such as Jamie Cullum, Alice Russell, and Jeb Loy Nichols.
Although now settled in Lancaster, London-born Bryony moved to Penrith, Cumbria in the North West of England with her family when she was 8. As she grew up, Bryony began to participate in the workshops and projects her mum set up in Cumbria. At BlueJam Arts she began performing alongside Tom Leah AKA Werkha, now long-time friend and collaborator. It was during this time that Bryony wrote and recorded the vocal line for Werkha’s track “Sidesteppin”, which was selected for Gilles Peterson’s Brownswood Bubblers compilation, before being released on Werkha’s “Beacons” EP. Not long after, “Dusk”, another co-written Werkha single gained notably heavy daytime airplay from BBC 6Music’s Lauren Laverne. The pair showcased their capacity for musical exploration on Bryony’s debut album ‘Cage & Aviary’. The sophisticated songwriting, brought to life by Bryony’s signature harmonies and melodic compositions, charmed many other major tastemakers and DJs.
