Hot Take Intake (Pre-order)
Hint

Released: 24 Feb 2023

Label: Tru Thoughts

‘Hot Take Intake’ (released 24th Feb) is a curated celebration of highly respected underground producer, remixer, and DJ Hint, following the ten-year anniversary of his ‘Daily Intake’ album: tru-thoughts.bandcamp.com/album/daily-intake

Sitting alongside remixes from ‘Daily Intake’ courtesy of Maddslinky, C.O.N.E, Darq E Freaker, Alphabets Heaven and LPZ are reworkings from the man himself under both his Hint and current Titeknots moniker plus a selection of unearthed gems and previously unreleased tracks. With previous supporters of Hint including Benji B, Tom Ravenscroft, Mary Anne Hobbs, and Huey Morgan (BBC 6Music), John Kennedy (XFM), Clash Magazine, DJ Mag, The Needledrop, Mr Scruff, Ben UFO and Rinse FM, this selection is unmissable for long-term fans and new crate diggers.

‘Hot Take Intake’ highlights Hint’s ability to pair vocal talent from across the world with influences drawn from dancehall, hip hop, UK house and bass music. Jamaican vocalist Natalie Storm comes through with thought-provoking club banger “Crash and Burn”, which sees reworkings from C.O.N.E., Darq E Freaker and a special Hint Warehouse Mix. Oakland duo Josie Stingray and 1-O.A.K. infuse the feel-good “Give It Up” with West Coast energy. The track gets a Hint Club Remix and is taken to new heights on focus track “Give It Up feat. Josie Stingray & 1-O.A.K. (Maddslinky Remix)” as Manchester-based producer, trailblazer, and UK dancefloor legend Maddslinky AKA Zed Bias takes the reins.

Hailing from Austin, TX, a teenage T-Fly provides vocals for Hint’s killer beat on “Aliens Enter”; “T-Fly really picked up on the more ‘far out’ elements of the beat. It’s off-key and peculiar. You feel that she gets really caught up in performing, and this is music as escapism, as something supernatural”, Hint adds. On ‘Hot Take Intake’, Hint’s reworking of the track enhances the boogie-style groove of the original and sits together with a remix from Jonny Wildey AKA Alphabets Heaven.

“Physical Stamina (Titeknots Remix)” heads up the release as the first of two previously unreleased tracks. The first move in connecting his older Hint material and the newer Titeknots output, the bass-heavy dancefloor spirit of the original remains as the track shifts to a more modern Broken Beat direction. Meanwhile “At The Dance (VIP Instrumental)” is a vocal-free version of one of the biggest Hint dancefloor tracks. After the original was released and promoted back in 2008, an instrumental was requested by a handful of DJs. It was never made available to the public beyond that until now as Hint offers up a fresh mixdown for 2023.

As Hint’s ‘Driven From Distraction’ LP tru-thoughts.bandcamp.com/album/driven-from-distraction celebrates its fifteen-year anniversary, Hint provides a remix of “One Woman Army feat. Laura Vane” and version of “The Tremmuh”, previously only released on ‘Shapes: Red’. ‘Hot Take Retake’ also unveils “Here’s Another One”, formerly released on Tru Thoughts compilation ‘Shapes 11:01’, and “Gallop Track”, taken from Hint’s ‘Laboratory Series No.1’. Elsewhere on the release, you’ll find a collection of remix instrumentals that see the eclectic, international influenced UK club music scene across the last fifteen years reflected through the lens of Hint, Maddslinky and Darq E Freaker.

Operating under his Titeknots alias, Hint continues to live in Brighton creating house music for dancers and movers, not head nodders. He has secured coverage in recent years from Thump, Nest HQ and Eton Messy with support from the likes of Gilles Peterson, Nightmares On Wax and DJ Zinc. DJing has taken him on tour with Bonobo, Quantic and Simian Mobile Disco as well as playing his own headline shows and he has released club-ready reworks of Harleighblu, Quantic, Dele Sosimi, Ibibo Sound Machine and more.
