WORLDWIDE FM Tru Thoughts Takeover

Part of our 25th anniversary celebrations, our all day “Tru Thoughts takeover” on Worldwide FM featured shows from across our roster, across genres, and across the globe.

All shows are available to listen back via Worldwide FM https://worldwidefm.net/episode/tru-thoughts-takeover-robert-luis or on Worldwide FM’s Mixcloud page https://www.mixcloud.com/worldwidefm/

Robert Luis curated a takeover day packed with music and conversation, bringing together guest hosts with a diverse range of musical styles. Robert’s own show showcases selections from the Tru Thoughts catalogue, featuring timeless classics like Quantic (with Arthur Verocai on strings) through to a track from Tara Lily’s debut album, plus plenty of new music and vinyl across the genres.

Sandunes brings inspiring sounds from some of her favourite artists to soundtrack early mornings, walks, drives, and coffees; “As someone with an interest in the intersection of jazz, electronic music, and hip hop, this is an hour long journey through old and new favourites that straddle various sonic worlds.”

Rhys Baker spotlights some of the new generation of talent on the label, while highlighting tracks from the catalogue that he has been playing out this summer, sprinkled in with a mix of ambient and spiritual jazz to kick start the day.

Steven Bamidele plays music inspired by change, whether that be getting older, overcoming old habits, positively influencing the culture you belong to, or a meaningful relationship in your life drastically changing. He also shares some tunes from friends and collaborators.

For Alice Russell 25 years of Tru Thoughts got her going back in time, including a couple of her own songs; “This show I wanted to nod to the 25 year Tru Thoughts celebration and choose one of the first songs TM Juke (Alex Cowan) and I wrote together, a Quantic collaboration, and right up to this year and my latest release with Tru Thoughts ‘I Am’. I wanted to include music that has been moving me, songs that I feel are bringing me both joy and awareness to where we are at right now with the world, we need now more than ever songs, music and creations that truly communicate to the human condition and truly connect us and help us tune in. So I have included both activist and the joy seeker in my choices…”

Benedic Lamdin aka Nostalgia 77’s show is instrumental top and tail, while Ebi Soda’s ‘Internet Jazz Findings’ is a short collection of findings from their online listening, where they have found jazz via many different subcultures, genres and artists. Includes K-pop / K-electronica, Reggaeton, New-Wave Broken Beat, Soundcloud Rap, and other DIY-made solo music.

Andris Mattson – best known as a producer, multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter and 1/3 of the Grammy nominated soul trio “Moonchild” – selects tracks which have stuck with him, in one way or another, over the past year; “Stylistically they don’t fix into one neat box, but to me they all hit the same part of my soul.” Andris’ show features music from the US, Brazil, and Latvia.

Kuna Maze’s show is a journey through ambient, spiritual jazz, Japanese soundtracks and more, “Let’s take a bit of time and slow down…” and finally Bruk Rogers closes the day running through a selection of broken beat, deep house, UK Bass and Jungle in a seamless hour long show, that replicates his live performances.
