Freddie Cruger & Anthony Mills Are Wildcookie

Wildcookie, a collaborative project by Freddie Cruger and Anthony Mills, released their album ‘Cookie Dough’ on Tru Thoughts in 2011. The Wildcookie catalogue also includes “Drugs EP” (2009) and “Slave Music EP” (2016), released on Freddie’s own label, Homegrown Records. “Drugs EP” received upfront support from Gilles Peterson on BBC Radio 1, with the lead track “Heroine” also featuring on the ‘Cookie Dough’ release.

Freddie Cruger, a.k.a. Red Astaire was no stranger to label, releasing his first solo album ‘Soul Search’ via Tru Thoughts in 2006. ‘Cookie Dough’ saw his ultra-crisp productions and sophisticated synthline melodies combine with the pitch perfect, often freestyled, vocals of Anthony Mills.

Anthony Mills was trained in opera, but has a sound influenced by hip hop, soul, reggae, jazz, ambient, trance and house. Mills has also toured extensively with Harry Belafonte’s All-Star Band, recorded with KRS-One, Amy Winehouse, Leela James, Maxi Priest, and many more. He has written well over 1000 songs and provided lead vocals for two other duos – Super Viral Brothers (Pope/Universal) and XXLARGEMILLS.
