Kylie Auldist – ‘Still Life’ 10th Anniversary

Kylie Auldist is the leading lady of Australian funk/soul stalwarts The Bamboos and a celebrated solo artist in her own right. From humble beginnings, Kylie has grown to become one of Australia’s most respected, versatile and accomplished performers. She has released three critically acclaimed albums ‘Just Say (The Bamboos Present)’ (2008), ‘Made of Stone’ (2009) and ‘Still Life’ (2012) on Tru Thoughts. ‘Made of Stone’ (and 2016 album ‘Family Tree’) won the coveted AGE Music Award in Australia.

As well as lending her sublime vocals to ‘This Girl’ (Kungs vs Cookin’ on 3 Burners), which reached the top 100 in over 50 countries, she has sung on collaborations with Boy George’s long-time producer Marc Vedo and had underground club hits with UK artists Flevans & Aldo Vanucci. Kylie is a remarkable artist whose musical journey continues to expand and blossom the longer it progresses.

In celebration of the ten-year anniversary of ‘Still Life’, a retro-soul classic on Tru Thoughts, we asked Kylie to choose her favourite songs from her back catalogue, both from her solo releases and her longtime collaboration with The Bamboos. Listen to the full selection over on this Spotify playlist.

1. Flevans – Easy Go

I wrote this song with Flevans who I love and toured with! I felt like a grown up girl cos Lance didn’t help me and didn’t comment at all while we were recording it! Felt weird because Lance is my mentor and collaborator! But he was just giving me space to fly! And I’m still wrapt with the outcome!!❤️

2. The Bamboos – I Don’t Wanna Stop

This is the first song I ever recorded with the Bamboos! I love it so much I just played it at a show tonight!!

3. Kylie Auldist – In a Week, in a Day – PTH Projects Amnesia Mix

Such a slick remix! I love the strings on this song.

4. Kyle Auldist – One Goodbye – Hint Remix

This song makes me wish I knew how to salsa – when will I learn??? I’m nervous of failure! I hear this remix in the most random places!! Glenroy Football club gives it a run fairly often 😂❤️

5. Kylie Auldist – Daydream

My spaghetti western theme tune!! This song makes me feel good – reminds me of a moment that was so vivid I wrote it down! I sometimes struggle with songwriting but this just appeared and made it feel easy.

6. Kylie Auldist – All in You

A song about my babies. The la la las at the end are really fun for audience participation! Try it at home! ❤️

7. Huko, Kylie Auldist – No Use

This is the first song that Lance and I wrote together for my solo stuff! I wanted to write something about ‘your my face page’ 😂 Lance said nah – how did he know? So I check with him before investing! You should too. Thanks to Huko for keeping the love alive x
