Could Heaven Ever Be Like This / Losalamitoslatinfunklovesong (Gil sm Remixes)
Lance Ferguson

Released: 5 May 2026

Label: Tru Thoughts

Lance Ferguson returns with a double remix release, as New York based producer Gil sm reworks two standout cuts from his Rare Groove Spectrum series.

Originally reimagined by Lance, ‘Could Heaven Ever Be Like This’, a take on Idris Muhammad’s seminal 1977 jazz-funk classic, is flipped by Gil sm into a deep, club-ready cut. Retaining the uplifting essence of the original composition, the remix leans into driving percussion, textured rhythms and a dancefloor-focused energy, reframing the track through a contemporary electronic lens.

Alongside it, ‘Losalamitoslatinfunklovesong’, Lance’s reinterpretation of Gene Harris’s Latin-fusion piece, is also given the Gil sm treatment. Building on the original’s breezy Bossa Nova influences, the remix transforms the track into a percussive, groove-led journey, weaving together elements of afro house, broken beat and UK club sounds.

Speaking on the project, Gil sm says: “I’m such a huge fan of both of these original tracks. Lance did such a wonderful job with the covers, so to be able to work on these remixes was a real blessing and I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to do so. There’s so much magic within these tracks, so it was about listening to that, channeling that feeling and doing some reimagining and exploration, letting intuition take over on what it could sound like on the dancefloor.”

Gil sm is a DJ, producer and composer from North East London, who first emerged as part of the Brighter Days Family Collective alongside IZCO, Reek0 and Nia Archives. Known for its instinctive, genre-fluid approach, the collective helped shape his musical identity – one rooted in feeling and connection to the dancefloor.
