Gravity / Renegades Of Jazz & V.B. Kühl Remixes
sUb_modU
Released: 31 Mar 2022
Label: Tru Thoughts
Italian producer and multi-instrumentalist sUb_modU, aka the brainchild of Romeo Sandri, follows his debut album ‘Descent To The Centre’ with two stellar remixes primed from the dancefloor, from German producer Renegades Of Jazz and Tru Thoughts label-mate V.B.Kühl. The release also features the Chicago/Detroit House-leaning “Gravity” – a track sparse with dark chord clusters. Romeo adds: “Gravity refers to the G.I. Gurdjieff’s ‘Centre of Gravity and is part of the larger concept of the entire album”.
Renegades Of Jazz, who’s renowned for his raw and heavy productions, boasting releases on Wass Records, Agogo Records and his own imprint Bathurst, transforms “All Around” into jazz-y broken cut. While self-confessed groove addict V.B.Kühl adds his meticulous percussive attention to “Gravity”.
Shuttling between Berlin and his hometown of Aosta, sUb_modU is an artist working in the fractured seams of electronic and jazz music. His debut EP release “Circles” on BBE was followed by ‘Pidgin Synths EP’, a release that entangled a homage to afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti with synth-heavy original material. His debut album ‘Descent To The Centre’ is a record that is an autobiographical and existentialist account of oneself, blending the electric/psychedelic spectrum of jazz with house, avant-garde, and ambient leanings.
sUb_modU has amassed an impressive list of tastemaker support through his unique reinterpretations, from the likes of Gilles Peterson (BBC 6Music), Ross Allen (NTS) and Virgil Abloh (Off White). Alongside the release of his debut album is a special edition, double A-side single, 7” featuring an exclusive 45 Centre Edit of the iconic “Expensive Shit” paired with a sUb_modu original “RAM Generation” submodu.bandcamp.com/album/expensive-shit-45-centre-edit-ram-generation-limited-edition-7
