LA collective Catpack — comprised of Amber Navran (Moonchild), Jacob Mann, and Phil Beaudreau – receive a new age boom-bap rework from post-pop renegade MIA GLADSTONE on Next To Me, the focus track of their self-titled debut album.

A vegan icon and radical purveyor of self-love, MIA GLADSTONE is a true musical triple threat (singer/songwriter/producer). Mia released her latest fully self-produced project ‘LOOPY’ in 2022, where she explores ideas and themes of growing up in the digital age, with features from Matt Martians and Teezo Touchdown. Her works have garnered millions of streams and support from major publications such as Paper Magazine. Mia has toured with Kiefer, and has opened for PawPaw Rod, Blu DeTiger, Carrtoons and more.

Next To Me is an amusing jest about the extremes of an all-consuming devotion to someone. The humour is carried through in the meowing synth, layered over Amber and Phil’s buttery harmonies. Mia follows suit, building in blissed-out, playful adlibs and a sweetly sung verse, while dialling up the drums with a clean boom-bap snap.

The genuine camaraderie and mutual admiration shared among the three Catpack creatives is palpable in its organic, joyful exploration of musical expression on their debut album. Amber adds “to me it’s three people with distinct sounds who love and admire each other, coming together to make something new”. The result is an authentic convergence of their artistry, drawing on their influences to harness a jazz-influenced R&B sound, with neo-soul, funky and electronic motifs.
