London-based producer, DJ and multi-instrumentalist Oliver Night collaborates with the renowned rapper and producer Roots Manuva on new single, “Boss”, the fourth release in the lead-up to his incoming debut album Between The Lines. A rich, genre-spanning project rooted in community, collaboration and experimentation, the album traces the evolution of Oliver’s sound across broken rhythms, lush harmonies and soulful textures.
On “Boss”, Oliver reconnects with one of his heroes, the legendary British rapper and producer Roots Manuva. The pair have history, Oliver previously worked with him alongside producer Olmino on the track “Beyond This World”. Built on a broken beat backbone, “Boss” carries a message of staying true to yourself. “I’d wanted to make another track for Roots for years,” Oliver shares. “It’s been a huge honour to finally make it happen.” Roots Manuva returns the admiration, adding: “Working with Oliver is a treat. He’s the boss!”
Roots Manuva is one of the most influential voices in UK music. Emerging from South London with his debut Brand New Second Hand (1999) on Big Dada, he reached global acclaim with Run Come Save Me (2001) and its iconic single “Witness (I Hope)”. Blending hip-hop with dub, ragga, funk, and electronic sounds, his work has earned him a MOBO Award, a Mercury Prize nomination, and lasting recognition as a pioneer of British rap.
A former member of Roots Manuva’s Banana Klan, Oliver’s journey has seen him appear at Glastonbury, Tate Modern, Boiler Room, and on Rinse FM and Worldwide FM. His collaborative reach spans names such as Bel Cobain, Marcel Vogel, Quiet Dawn, Jimpster, Jay Phelps and Natasha Diggs, with releases on CoOp Presents and beyond, garnering support from Gilles Peterson, Jamz Supernova, Kerri Chandler, Honey Dijon, Tony Humphries, Jazzie B, Seth Troxler, Kid Fonque and Rainer Trüby. His music has been spotlighted by outlets including Bolting Bits and Music Is My Sanctuary, cementing him as a standout voice in the evolving bruk and soul landscape.
