Label: Tru Thoughts

Tru Thoughts proudly welcomes London-based producer, DJ and multi-instrumentalist Oliver Night, making his label debut with the Broken Beat-infused double single “Run Like The River feat. TREV / Reach Out”. Full of rhythmic depth, soul and inventive energy, the release marks an exciting new chapter for a multifaceted artist with deep roots in the UK’s underground music scene.

Built around a chopped Rhodes progression from long-time collaborator and CoOp Presents affiliate TREV, “Run Like The River” is a soulful call to intuition, liberation and self-belief. Oliver leads as vocalist, delivering lyrics that reflect inner alignment and clarity, “It’s about not being blinded by the lies in the world around us,” he says, “standing strong in your truth, believing in your intuition and letting your body’s energy paths flow in sync – mind, body, gut, soul.” Developed intuitively, the track began with TREV’s keys, which Oliver sampled and restructured to create a deep, rolling groove. “The melody and hook came really quickly – it just fell into place,” he recalls. TREV also co-wrote the drums and contributed the outro, which Oliver layered with strings, bass and added percussion. Warm, organic and quietly defiant, the track embodies a free-flowing spirit and emotional honesty.

“Reach Out”, a solo effort, showcases Oliver’s skills as a producer. Broken Beat but infused with DnB-style synths and basslines, the track pulses with kinetic energy, blending dreamy textures, jagged drums and subtle shifts in mood. “I wrote it as a kind of affirmation,” he explains. “It’s about reaching out to someone who might need love, support or guidance. Life can feel hectic and overwhelming, but there’s always a calm to be found if you stay grounded.” Drawing on ideas first touched on in his Welcome EP, Oliver pushes further into club territory, balancing introspection with dancefloor drive. “I’ve always loved DnB,” he adds. “This was about exploring that palette through a bruk lens. I wanted something that hits, but still makes you feel.”
