Yep (DJ Harrison Remix)
Catpack

Released: 19 Sep 2024

Label: Tru Thoughts

LA collective Catpack, consisting of Amber Navran (of Moonchild), Jacob Mann and Phil Beaudreau, follow the release of their debut self-titled album with a slick remix by producer, musician, and Stones Throw signee DJ Harrison.

“Yep” acts as an interlude/response to the band’s single and predecessor on the album “The Top”, with Amber’s pitched-down voice contrasting against Phil’s pitched-up vocals and horn solos, pocket pianos and glitchy effects are sprinkled on top to create a sublime beat tape. DJ Harrison transforms this formula by adding a swinging lo-fi drum pattern with dreamy, layered textures and vocal soundscapes to his signature remix.

Their debut record is an authentic convergence of each band member’s artistry, drawing on their influences to harness a jazz-influenced R&B sound with neo-soul, funky and electronic motifs. The whimsical namesake is taken from a synth patch resembling cats meowing that they discovered in the studio.

DJ Harrison is an artist, producer, and multi-instrumentalist. As the chief of Jellowstone Records, DJ Harrison runs the recording studio and record label based in Richmond, VA, where much of his music has come to life. He has released several albums as a solo artist, spanning genres such as jazz, funk, soul, R&B, hip hop and rock – to name a few. His vast catalogue showcases his diverse talents while displaying deep reverence for the legacy of Black American Music.

Since the release of their quirky, light-hearted project ‘Catpack’ – which amassed support from the likes of Rolling Stone Japan, Soul Bounce, EARMILK and radio plays across KEXP, KCRW and Jazz FM – Catpack have made their debut performance at the iconic Amoeba Hollywood.

Catpack also set off on their 13-date US-UK-EU tour starting at the end of September – with standout performances at Lodge Room (LA), Racket (NYC), and The Jazz Cafe (London).
