Flash feat. Abacus
WheelUP
Released: 4 Mar 2025
Label: Tru Thoughts
West London DJ and producer WheelUP unveils his atmospheric roller Flash, featuring Abacus, the moniker of Harry Bryson from drum and bass duo Pola & Bryson. The single comes with the announcement of his third album Inner Light [out Friday 30th May], representing a new chapter in WheelUP’s spiritual and musical ascension.
Wavering between the analogue and digital, the track sweeps through expansive cinematic strings and keys, to modulating synth layers, funky bass and syncopated, splashy percussion. As it drives through bruk moments, the track has a sense of propulsion, a snapshot of the album’s transformative themes.
“To me, it is a futuristic broken beat number that combines orchestral elements with Rhodes keyboards and techy synth b-line. Both myself and Harry come from the DNB world originally, so bass vibration is an important part of what we do. The soulful element is also key… working on healing frequencies in music.” – WheelUP
As part of Pola & Bryson, Harry has cemented his place as one-half of the most talented production duos representing drum and bass today, with tracks such as Phoneline with Emily Makis (35 million+ plays on Spotify), being hailed by many as “2023’s D&B anthem.” Tracks like Waiting (with Sub Focus) and Too Shy (with IYAMAH) have solidified their reputation as one of the most dynamic and exciting acts in UK dance music today.
The single offers a glimpse into his forthcoming album, Inner Light, centred around “the guiding life force (what is called Chi energy in Eastern cultures),” WheelUP explains, and emitting positive energy through thoughts, decisions and actions. He adds “The project represents a musical vibration that aligns with my own inner light.” Inner Light, which will include triple single Magnetic with multi-hyphenate poet, DJ, and singer-songwriter Sio, ventures into house and disco cuts, alongside WheelUP’s signature mastery of broken beat production, showcasing his dynamic artistry and genre-spanning vision. “I think my sound is in constant evolution,” he adds.
The project follows a recent tour across China and WheelUP’s sophomore album, ‘We Are The Magic’, along with recent remixes, including his take on Alice Russell’s Rain and fresh reworks of his tracks by Wipe The Needle, Afriquoi, and Makoto.
