Safe in Your Arms feat. Abacus & Liv East
WheelUP

Released: 17 Apr 2025

Label: Tru Thoughts

DJ and producer WheelUP joins forces with East London’s songstress Liv East and long-time collaborator Abacus (aka Harry Bryson) on ‘Safe In Your Arms’ – taken from upcoming album Inner Light (out Friday 30th May). With her R&B and neo-soul inflexions, Liv’s sultry vocals explore the uncertainty in a new connection, set against a backdrop of honeyed, soulful house.

“Safe In Your Arms is about that feeling you get when you start falling for someone; everything is new and mysterious, yet there are still questions about whether this person will be able to make you feel safe enough to let your guard completely down. It’s a reflection on that liminal space between euphoria and fear of falling in love again.” Liv East

Liv East’s musical journey kicked off in 2019 with a hip-hop meets neo-soul EP for Hackney’s Root 73 label. Her tracks ‘You’re My’ (released on Defected’s Glitterbox, earning support from house heavyweights like Moodymann and Jayda G) and ‘I Miss Having Someone To Talk To’ with Folamour have since become big hitters. After a breakout year with her debut solo EP LVE1, Liv has spent much of 2024 crafting her highly anticipated debut album, set to drop soon.

“I got to work with Liv East on this album, which was a dream come true. Her vocals are incredible, this is a new style for me too, Soul and House music vibes combining on this riddim… Linking up was such a pleasure; she is one of my favourite current UK singers. Her voice is like heaven, so sweet and soulful. This is a groovy track that comes from the heart” WheelUP

A track that effortlessly transitions from mellow moments to dancefloor grooves, this versatile cut sees WheelUP and Abacus, both with roots in drum and bass, unite to deliver a clean, crisp, soulful house production. Reflecting on the collaboration, Danny shares his love for “bringing together people from different ecosystems of music to combine powers”.

The single marks the final release in a series of singles from WheelUP’s forthcoming album, ‘Inner Light’, which is centred around “the guiding life force (known as Chi energy in Eastern cultures),” as WheelUP explains, and the positive energy that radiates through thoughts, decisions, and actions. He adds, “The project represents a musical vibration that aligns with my own inner light.” Inner Light explores house and disco influences while showcasing WheelUP’s signature mastery of broken beat production, highlighting his dynamic artistry and genre-spanning vision.
