I See You (Sworn Virgins Remix) / Light (Palm Skin Productions Remix)
Alice Russell
Released: 5 Sep 2024
Label: Tru Thoughts
Alice Russell shares two new remixes; first by London electro duo, and Soulwax’s DEEWEE signees, Sworn Virgins, which is paired with Tru Thoughts label mate and versatile producer Palm Skin Productions. Both tracks remixed are taken from Alice Russell’s revelatory new album ‘I Am’, which has been praised by Clash, Gilles Peterson (BBC 6Music), Jamie Cullum (BBC Radio 2) and across Jazz FM as Album of the Week.
“I See You”, inspired by Lemn Sissay’s theme of ‘Care’ for Brighton Festival, is transformed into another realm by Sworn Virgins, who take the song down a completely different lane – that of an arty-electro-sleaze alley – adding their signature sauce to the track with a deep house tip mixed in with sultry vocals. Alice adds: “When I was on tour, I would always pop in and stay with Craig [from Sworn Virgins]. I remember a night in NYC when we went to the Night of 1000 Stevie Nicks… That’s all I’m allowed to say”. From the green hills of Albania to the back rooms of New York City, Sworn Virgins bring the light. The London-based duo have released on DEEWEE, the label of Belgian electronic group Soulwax aka 2manydjs, and have remixed artists such as Hot Chip.
“Light” is taken to new euphoric heights by producer, musician and Mo’ Wax affiliate Palm Skin Productions, aka Simon Richmond, who blends electronica, synth-funk and alternative dance into an instantaneous and infectious remix. “I channelled my inner Quincy Jones on this”, Simon jokes. Palm Skin Productions is a man who knows how to throw down a beat. Adept in percussion, beat-making, DJing and producing. His own musical style is writhe with electro-funk and peppered with hip-hop instrumentals.
