“The Night feat. Melissa McMillan” is the latest self-produced single from multi-instrumentalist, composer, arranger and producer Sly5thAve. Exploring the universal feeling of melancholy that can wash over us all from time to time, the track provides assurance that these dark times will not last for ever; the night won’t last.

A track of two parts, the voice of fellow Texas-born vocalist and Sly5thAve’s long-time friend and collaborator Melissa McMillan knits together “The Night”, a familiar journey of the emotions that transcend between despair and hope. McMillan’s vocals are the perfect companion to an instrumental sprinkled with saxophone and twinkling production from Sly5thAve, taking inspiration from early Gabriel Garzón-Montano releases and the production of fellow IGBO member, self-taught guitarist and producer Benamin.

Drawing further inspiration from the natural world, “The Night” uplifts with a reminder of the cyclical nature of everything; “the sun will rise eventually”, McMillan reiterates, speaking of the message at the heart of the track.
