New World (Hinako Omori Remix)
Anchorsong

Released: 11 Aug 2022

Label: Tru Thoughts

London-based Japanese producer Anchorsong aka Masaaki Yoshida’s novel single “New World” gets an experimental ambient reinterpretation from Yokohama-born producer and musician Hinako Omori. Originally released on Anchorsong’s acclaimed fourth album ‘Mirage’ – a record that evoked hazy soundscapes constructed with wind instruments, choirs and global sonic particles – “New World” is an uplifting sonic expedition from the highly-feted artist.

Hinako Omori channels her holistic energy and beguiling sounds of modular synths and field recordings to Anchorsong’s “New World”, evoking a space of impossible dimensions and gentle momentum. The remix’s entrancing repetition and enveloping synths create sensitivity to texture, as aspects of Anchorsong’s original composition are syphoned through angelic gaps that are almost Hiroshi Yoshimura-esque in nature (a pioneer of ambient music in Japan).

“I’m a huge fan of Hinako, and having her magic touch on one of my personal favourite tracks on the album means a lot to me. She transformed it dramatically and beautifully, it does sound like the music from new world.” Anchorsong adds.

Building on the MPC wizard’s long-standing tradition of “borderless music”, ‘Mirage’ fuses intricate rhythms with minimal yet immersive lush interplays of sound, to create an auditory odyssey. The album was praised by the likes of Clash, Huw Stephens (BBC 6Music), Flaunt Magazine and many more.

Hinako Omori is a composer who thinks deeply about her music and provides generously to her listeners. Born in Yokohama, Japan, she moved to the UK when she was three years old and lives in London. She began her musical path learning classical piano, later training as a sound engineer, and has since moved into working with analogue synths.

Previous to releasing her own solo material she toured with and played on records by a raft of critically acclaimed musicians, including Kae Tempest, Georgia, and EOB, among many others, but it is her work in sound engineering that provides the bedrock of skills that manifest her vision for her debut album “a journey…” via Houndstooth, articulating a whole world in binaural field recordings, analogue synthesizers and augmented vocals.
